AFP coating

Anti-Fingerprint (AFP) Stainless Steel

An anti-fingerprint (AFP) coating is a thin, clear protective layer applied over the finished sheet. It makes fingerprints and smudges far less visible and the surface easier to wipe clean — useful on lift interiors, doors, handles and anything at hand height.

What AFP does

  • Reduces visible fingerprints and smudges on touched surfaces.
  • Makes routine cleaning quicker: most marks wipe off with a soft, damp cloth.
  • Keeps the look of the finish underneath; the coating itself is clear.

Where it helps most

Lift cabins and doors, reception desks, wardrobe and kitchen shutters, handles, column cladding at hand height and corridor walls — anywhere people touch or brush past the steel.

Which finishes can have AFP

AFP availability depends on the finish and colour. Each material page shows what is confirmed for that sheet; where it says "ask SMN", tell us the finish and quantity and we will confirm before you specify.

Cleaning advice

  • Use a soft cloth with water or a mild, neutral cleaner.
  • Avoid abrasive pads, scouring powder and strong solvents: they can damage the coating and the finish.
  • Wipe along the grain on brushed finishes.
